Back in 1995, DOOM fanatic, Robert 'Fusion' Babor finally decided to open up a DOOM level editor and create some levels of his own. Feeling motivated to create a series of levels much more difficult and of higher quality than the original Doom levels, Fusion began development on some maps. After toying with level design for a while, Fusion showed off his work to a fellow 'Doomer', DarkFyre. DarkFyre was astonished and decided that he too was interested in level design. Together they combined their talent and set out to create an ultimate megawad... Hellcore. Unfortunately, they underestimated the challenge of creating an entire series of 32 levels with only 2 people, so the project began to drag on. As time progressed, and new games came out, Hellcore was put on hold... but ultimately the love for the classic DOOM experience rekindled the project time and time again. Eventually Hellcore reached virtual completion, with only a few more maps to go, and some more textures/sounds/music to be implemented... but again the project slowed down. After nearly 7 years of the project being put on and off hold, the Hellcore Team has decided to try to finish it once and for all! Currently reaching out to the public for support, we'll see what happens to what is quite possibly the oldest DOOM Partial Conversion still under construction.
